On the afternoon of Sunday, April 27 - the halls of the Royal Society Bridge Club, (and Widow
Fletcher's) were overflowing with the family and friends of Bill Herlihy. Starting with a touching ceremony and remembrance
of Bill, all in attendance chatted, remembered and toasted to Bill. A delicious buffet was gracefully provided by the
family and expertly prepared by the staff and kitchen of Widow Fletcher's. It was the kind of event we all never are
prepared to be invited to, but I think we all agree, are privileged to attend!
We will miss you Bill Herlihy!
April 6, 2008
It is with sadness that we announce the death of William Herlihy,
Bill passed away shortly after 1pm on Sunday, April 6 after a long illness. Bill had been
in the Portsmouth hospital for 86 days, and was surrounded by his family and a few close friends. There
will not be any public funeral arrangements, however, a service will be announced within the next few weeks.
This information was passed along to the RSBC by fellow member Tom Thornton.
Bill was one of the original members of the RSBC, where his boisterous laugh will be sorely missed.
Many members will never forget Bill's parties at his home at Plaice Cove (Wonderland), he will also be remembered as the original
"Louey the Lobster", for the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival.
